The Indian government on Monday announced the results of a five-year, $6.4 billion health plan, saying there were 2 million cases of adenoid neoplasm (an enlarged cell of tissue containing a large number of cells that are not normally found in healthy cells) in India’s primary care sector and that about one million patients were awaiting treatment for other diseases.
It did not specify how many of the patients were from rural areas, and did not provide a time frame for how long the pandemic would last.
The health ministry said that in the year to May 31, 2.25 million patients and 2.6 million adults were being treated for adenoids.
India has the second-highest number of adeno-associated viral infections in the world after the United States, according to the World Health Organization.
More than 30 million Indians have been diagnosed with adenosis, a rare form of the disease that is characterized by a swelling of the membranes surrounding the lining of the stomach, intestines and other organs.
The new data on the disease came from the National Epidemiological Survey of India, a survey that covers about 20 percent of the population, the ministry said.
The National Survey of Adeno-Associated Viruses in India (NISA-INMI) has been conducting annual surveys of people living in rural and remote areas since 2008.
In the latest survey, conducted in June, a total of 6,935 cases were recorded, including 1,074 deaths, the government said.
In total, 1,1,079 cases were reported during that period, the health ministry added.
The total number of deaths from adeno is estimated at 8,835, and the total number who have died of adenosperitonitis (the more severe form of adEN) at 4,531.
The number of people receiving treatment for adEN has also increased, the report said.
“The total number is at 9,081, while the number receiving treatment from adenospermia is at 4.2, and both of them are increasing,” the health minister, M Venkaiah Naidu, said at a press conference in New Delhi.
The government also said there were 851 new cases of coronavirus infections, mostly in children, as of the end of June.
The country’s health ministry reported that the death toll from coronaviruses has risen by more than 4,000.
It said that the country has recorded an average of about 3,400 new cases per month in the past year.
The most recent data on cases from the NISA-INSI showed that in June 2016, the total deaths from coronas were at 1,632, the most recent of which was on March 15.
The data on new cases is not available yet for the year that ends in May, so it is unclear how many people have died.
